Packaging lead times are very dependent on timing. Summer has arrived, and that means we are probably a little less than three months away from our busiest time of year in the world of packaging. Our business tends to see a substantial rise in inquiries and sales volumes towards the end of the summer and especially during the Fall months, as companies prepare in advance of the holiday season. While we understand that it is not always possible for our customers to know their projected volumes, budgets and preferred designs ahead of time, it is never too early to begin the process of finding the right holiday packaging for you and your business.
Branded Packaging Design—The Art Discussion
While we pride ourselves in being able to ship a first-time order to our customers within 2 weeks of final approved artwork, packaging lead times sometimes may be extended during our busy season due to the high number of projects being balanced. However, even during our busiest season, we are often able to hit the 2 week mark, but that always depends on what we refer to as the “art discussion.” It is not uncommon for someone to inquire in October, spend several months designing and modifying their artwork, only to see the calendar reach late November or early December by the time they return to us with final, approved artwork. Beginning these processes in June, July or August drastically reduces the possibility of ending up in the situation where you have to pull the trigger on a design you are not satisfied with for the sake of getting your packaging in time for the holiday rush. We print hundreds of new, first-time boxes every year, and the only people who ever regret branded packaging are those who rushed through the process. (See “Mistakes” related post below).
Custom Packaging Versatility—Allow Time to Make Informed Decisions
When it comes to custom packaging, one of the greatest benefits can also be the greatest cause of delay in a project. Many inquiring companies do not realize the extent of options available to them until they begin to have those discussions with a member of our team, who are experienced and knowledgeable about various options for numerous applications. Variety and decisions are plentiful. Size, board color, interior and exterior print are all just some of the variables that must be considered, and that doesn’t even include the potential for interior or additional packaging. It is not uncommon for a potential customer to inquire with one type of packaging product in mind (such as a mailer envelope) only to realize a box or other product is the better solution for them. Allowing yourself and your business time to make informed decisions about the best packaging solution for your product is an asset that vanishes when you wait too long and put yourself up against the holiday clock.
